Tortoiseshell Mirror

France, Napoleon III, 1860-1870

POA

W120.5cm H184cm

An imposing rectangular mirror with a shaped pediment inset with a gilt bronze mask of a female figure flanked by scrolling acanthus. The broad frame is richly inlaid with red tortoiseshell, brass and pewter in arabesque patterns reminiscent of André Charles Boulle marquetry.

Very good overall state; minor imperfections to the veneer and brass inlay consistent with age and use. The gilt bronze mount retains a pleasing patina. The mirror shows light oxidation consistent with age. The pelmet can be removed for a more ‘modern’ look.
